My favorite Star Trek incarnation was 'Star Trek: The Next Generation'. Yeah the first two seasons were terrible but after that all they did was produce excellent episode after episode. They took advantage of the greatest gift that sci-fi offers: examining issues from an oblique angle. For example, there was the examination of gay rights in the episode "The Outcast".
