I went to
Homegrown today to get some
Ezekiel bread and started asking the staff about some of the organics that they, and other grocers, sell. The only specific they could give me was that they were grown without using pesticides. I wanted to know if there is some sort of standard that allows a grower to use the 'certified organic' stamp and they said that different
certifying groups have different standards. We agreed that a good place to start would be to compare the certification of one product (I chose gala apples since they are one of my favorites) from a bunch of different places. She said she would get it from her grower and I'm going to try to get it from Safeway and Superstore. I haven't been to the local IGA in a while but last time I was there I don't remember seeing any organic apples. I wonder why. More to come soon.
